PhD, MPhil, and MSt (Res)

The University of St. Andrews School of Divinity is a world-renowned community for biblical scholarship. As such, the school offers a number of competitive and rigorous research programmes in the field of biblical studies.

The School of Divinity’s main research degree is the PhD, a three to four-year programme focused on the completion of an 80,000 word thesis.

The MPhil in Biblical Languages and Literature is a two-year research programme, comprising of the taught components of the corresponding MLitt in its first year and a 40,000 word thesis in the second.

The MSt (Res) is a one-year research degree, consisting of a 30,000 word thesis.

Throughout their programmes, postgraduate research students are provided with support and feedback via their supervisor and encouraged to participate in regular research seminars, conferences, and professional development. Additionally, PhD students are allocated their own desk space and opportunities for tutoring and teaching.
